Links to data sources are intended to help Floridians understand how the proposed property tax amendment could affect local governments in their own communities. Our focus is on two measurable issues: (1) the estimated reduction in local property tax revenue or taxable value, and (2) the degree to which cities and counties rely on that revenue to fund local operations.

Florida Association of Counties' impact analysis can be downloaded here to review projected fiscal impacts by county. For more information, please contact Jeff Scala, Deputy Director of Public Policy (jscala@fl-counties.com).Â
City impact estimates compiled from the Florida League of Cities published report include city-level data on the proposed $250,000 homestead exemption along with a municipal property tax study conducted by Wichita State University for the League. The Wichita State study provides statewide context on municipal budget exposure, including the role property taxes play in city general fund revenue, while the League’s city-level data shows how the proposed exemption would affect individual municipal tax bases. Contact Allison Payne for more information.
These figures should be read as fiscal-impact and budget-exposure data, not as adopted plans for specific service cuts. In many communities, local officials have not yet determined how they would absorb the reductions if the amendment passes. The revenue impact is measurable; the local response will depend on future budget decisions, available replacement revenue, legal constraints, and the priorities of each city or county.
